Satellite Beach 5 Reasons Why You Should Live in Satellite Beach Florida
You know you want to live near the beach and you are trying to find the right beach town to call home. In this post, I will go over the 5 reasons why you should consider Satellite Beach Florida.
1: More residential than touristy
Satellite Beach is your place to call home…just look at their website!!! Satellite Beach is one of the few cities in the county that really do not have a hotel presence in the city and they seemed focused on the residents, owners and long term tenants. They are not really interested in the transient/touristy feel in other parts of the County.
Most of the residential options are single family homes, then condos, townhomes, and various other multifamily style properties. Most of the homes are what I consider/classify as a drylot. They do have some oceanfront homes on the east side of town and Satellite Beach has some prime waterfront homes on the west side of town. If you are a boater & have a sailboat; Satellite Beach is located south of the Pineda Causeway and has very easy access to the intercoastal. Just head south on the Grand Canal and the Banana River until they merge with the Indian River.
You can also find a place to call home at any price point. Single family homes sold between $181K-$1.885M in 2020 with a median price of $377K. Condos sold between $75K for a 435 SqFt one bedroom to $1.399M for a 3779 SqFt direct ocean condo. Median condo sales price was $365K for 2020. Townhomes/half duplex sold between $143K and $510K with the median price of $280K.
2: Beach parks and beach access
Satellite Beach makes up 4 of the 5 miles of sandy shores between the Pineda Causeway and the Eau Gallie Causeway (the last mile is Indian Harbour Beach). Along this stretch of A1A, the city of Satellite Beach has 4 city parks and several county parks on the ocean with beach access for you to enjoy.
Pelican Beach Park offers free parking, pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms & showers. Pelican Beach also has a clubhouse that can be rented for weddings and other gatherings.
Hightower Park offers free parking, a pavilion, boardwalk, restrooms and a shower
Gemini Beach Park offers bike and pedestrian access to the beach
Crotty Beach Park offers parking and beach access.
There are 2 additional parks in the unincorporated section of North Satellite Beach (aka South Patrick Shores) Sea Gull Park is a Brevard County Park that offers free parking, 2 covered picnic areas, and access to the beach. S.P.R.A (South Patrick Residents Association) park offers free parking and beach access.
Besides these parks offering beach access, there are several other beach access points between Pineda Causeway and the Eau Gallie Causeway for you to get onto the beach and enjoy the beaches in Satellite Beach Florida. Just look for the sign!
3: Great Parks & Recreation facilities
Satellite Beach Recreation facilities offer 8 lighted tennis courts and 2 indoor racquetball courts 7 days a week. Located at 499 Desoto Parkway. Lessons are available along with a variety of league play.
Skate/BMX Bike Park is located at 750 Jamaica Boulevard and is open 7 days a week.
Playgrounds can be found at both the Desoto Recreation Park and the Jamaica Sports facility. Two other playgrounds are located at Cinnamon Park at 534 Cinnamon Dr and at Pelican Beach Park too.
E Lorraine Gott’s dog park is also located at 750 Jamaica Blvd and is open 7 days a week. This off leash dog park offers play areas for small and large dogs. Your first visit, you will need to register your pup with proof of shots and there is a small fee for entry too. Samsons Island is a 52 acre island on the Banana River located between Tortoise Island and Lansing Island and is part of the Indian River Lagoon Estuary System. Boat, paddleboard or kayak over to explore the paths and ecosystem on this city park. The city of Satellite Beach allows visitors during the day on Samsons Island and has a primitive campsite available through the Satellite Beach Recreation Department.
4: Great Schools
If schools are important to you, you should be happy with any research you do on the schools in Satellite Beach. The two elementary schools (Sea Park Elementary and Spessard L. Holland Elementary), DeLaura Middle School, and Satellite Beach High School are all A rated schools according to this Florida Today website that tracks the county’s schools https://data.floridatoday.com/school/brevard/
5: Location
Location Location Location…that’s what is important with any real estate. Satellite Beach has a great location that offers easy access to anywhere in Brevard County & central Florida. A1A is the main road running north & south. South Patrick Drive is another great connector running north and south that is on the west side of Satellite Beach. If you need to get to the mainland, you have easy access to the Pineda Causeway (the 404) at the north side of town and you have the Eau Gallie Causeway (the 518) just south of the city. Patrick Space Force Base is minutes away. Port Canaveral and the Canaveral Space Force Station are 20 minutes away (depending on Cocoa Beach traffic) The Melbourne airport is 25 minutes away. KSC main gate is less than an hour(33 miles). If you need to get to the Orlando attractions, you can be there in under 90 minutes (78 miles to Disney)
BONUS 6: Sustainable Satellite Beach
Satellite Beach is going green! They have some great plans in place to have City Hall and the Public Works building to run off solar power by 2022. The city of Satellite Beach has partnered with FPL to make this happen. On top of city hall and the Civic Center, they have a 232 panel solar array to generate electricity for the buildings. If you have driven through Satellite Beach on A1A or have visited Pelican Beach Park, you have seen the Pelican Array. The solar panels at the park provide covered/shaded parking for 8 spots and generate electricity to be used for the farmers market that sets up on Thursdays at the park. (The Thursdays farmers market is another bonus from the city of Satellite Beach!!)
