Rockledge Florida Pros and Cons

No matter where you live, there are things you love and things that you hate about your area…Rockledge Florida is no different! This post is all about the pros and cons of Rockledge Florida

I love the central location of Rockledge. Easy commute to work if you are at the Space Center, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, or Patrick Space Force Base. If you are working in Titusville, US 1 or 95 is a fairly quick drive. If you are working at any of the Aerospace/Government Contract jobs near the Melbourne Airport, take either US1 or 95 south.

The con to Rockledge’s location is if you are planning a beach day. You are either taking 520 through Cocoa Village & Merritt Island to hit the beach OR you are driving south to the Pineda Causeway to get to the beach…it will not take you hours to get to the beach, but it’s not the easiest city to live in for beach-goers.

If you like the idea of living in Viera and are not too fond of the prices in Viera; Rockledge is a great option. The median price for the Viera area in the last 6 months was $490K versus $350K for the city of Rockledge. The homes are older in Rockledge, with the median age of 1992 based upon the last 6 months of sales versus 2004. Even though there are sections of Rockledge with homes built in the 1960’s and 1970’s, there are new/newer homes in Rockledge too.

I love the homes and area of Rockledge that is east of US 1 between Cocoa Village and the hospital. Lots of mature oaks. Unique mid-century and turn-of-the-century homes. Take a drive down Rockledge Dr and enjoy this slow-paced winding road along the Indian River.

Since Rockledge is on the mainland, and most of the homes are west of US 1; you are not in a mandatory evacuation area if a storm is approaching. If you are East of US1, it’s mandatory evacuation…You will have to decide if you should stay or go…which is really a decision we all make no matter where we are at in Florida.

If you are looking for a city that has a vibrant downtown area…offering lots of shops and restaurants…Rockledge probably isn’t a good option for you. There are some shops and some restaurants along Barton. There are some along US1 & Fiske. Just not a destination area like you will find at Cocoa Village, EGAD, Historic Downtown Melbourne, or Downtown Cocoa Beach.

Traffic can be an issue anywhere you live. The only time I had an issue with traffic in Rockledge was during rush hour in the morning or evening on US1 OR when a train is coming through and the crossing guards were down on Barton, Eyester, or Barnes. Other than that, I think the city of Rockledge does a great job handling traffic.

The bottom line, the city of Rockledge offers a lot if you are looking for a new place to call home. There is golfing nearby. There are a lot of parks to visit. There are lots of sidewalks throughout the city. They have a variety of housing options (homes, condos, townhomes, manufactured homes) at a variety of prices. Rockledge Florida is worth looking into.
