Planning a move to Florida to live on the Space Coast and Rockledge keeps popping up on the radar? This post is all about the oldest city in Brevard County…which is Rockledge Florida.
Rockledge Florida was officially founded in August 1877 and is the oldest city in Brevard County. Named after the many ledges of coquina rock that formed the shoreline of the Indian River…hence the name Rock Ledge (thank you google for that info)
Rockledge’s population of over 28,000 people makes it the 5th largest city in Brevard County. Rockledge has a land mass of 14.93 square miles, making it the 6th largest city in Brevard County.
Location
Rockledge is centrally located in Brevard County on the mainland. The northern boundary is the city of Cocoa. Southern city boundaries are technically Viera and unincorporated Rockledge borders unincorporated Melbourne. The east boundary is the Indian River. The western boundary is I-95. The zip code for Rockledge is 32955 which includes the city of Rockledge, north Viera, and extends west to the St John’s river and the Brevard County border.

I love the accessibility of living in Rockledgs. US 1 is the main connector north & south. Fiske Boulevard and Murrell Rd are secondary connectors going north & south. Fiske Blvd & Viera Blvd are the two exits onto I95 from the Rockledge area. Barton, Eyester, Barnes, & Viera Blvd are the main connectors going east & west. For a great leisurely drive, treat yourself to Rockledge Dr along the Indian River.
Downtown
Even though Rockledge does not have a destination downtown area, you are close to Cocoa Village to the north and the Avenues at Viera to the south. Barton Blvd is where City Hall is located and I consider the town center. Just east of City Hall, they have the recently opened Civic Hub, a 1.5 acre park for city events that has a mini-amphitheater, restrooms, vendor space, and walkways. To the west of City Hall are McLarty Park and the community center. McLarty Park offers baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming, playgrounds, and walking trails.

McLarty Park is not the only park in Rockledge. There is Cruickshank Sanctuary with nature trails to explore.
Dick Blake Park has a skate park, soccer, playgrounds, and a preserve
Valencia Dock or Riverfront Dock on Rockledge Dr is on the Indian River.
The McKnight Sports Complex has baseball, football, racquetball, tennis, & soccer.
Parks like Walk the Rock and Taylor Morris Park offer trails around lakes to be outdoors and stay active.
You can go fishing at Larry Schultz park, Golfview park, Anderson Stormwater park & the Griffin Trail at Lake Betsi.
There is even a place for your pup at the Barks & Recreation dog park on Pluckebaum Rd.
Schools for the city of Rockledge & the 32955
